SOAR to Success

The SOAR to Success Reading Program is taught by Karen Baker. This program targets sixth,
seventh, and eighth graders who are reading below grade level. The SOAR program is designed
to improve the reading skills of students and to accelerate their reading level over a short period
of time. The program lasts for one semester or 18 weeks. The two main goals of the program are
to teach children to apply decoding skills to unknown words and to use four key reading strategies during reading that will help understand and comprehend what they have read. Selection of the students for this program is done through the evaluation of teachers, Integrated Language Arts grades, and various test scores.
