NOTES FROM YOUR SCHOOL NURSE

Your school nurse is Michael Mowbray, R.N. I am in my office and available Monday through Friday from 7:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

We at SHMS encourage good attendance. The health office does everything possible to keep students healthy in the instructional setting. We have hand sanitizers available in every room and promote a healthy lifestyle. We work in conjunction with the Worcester County Health Department and the Maryland Department of Health to provide the healthiest environment for the community we serve.

Please do not send ill or injured children to school “to be checked by the nurse.” Doing so exposes others to the illness when your child would be more comfortable at home. If you have concerns about an ill or injured child you should consult a physician.

Please do not send your child to school if any of these symptoms are present:

• Temperature above 99.9 degrees
• Vomiting and/or Diarrhea (within 24 hours)
• Green or yellow nasal discharge
• Unusual Skin Rashes
• Pink Eye (discomfort with drainage, crustiness or stickiness, especially upon waking)
• Head Lice

Most conditions are safe to return to school after 24 hours of treatment/medication however, ask your doctor.

Remember that Hand Washing is the single most effective method to prevent the spread of disease.

If you have any questions I can be reached at (410-632-5243)

In Service,
Nurse Mike
